A social media video created to showcase all of the goodies, imported from Ireland and the U.K. for Christmas 2024, at my favourite store in the city.
Recorded on iPhone with the BlackMagic Camera app and using an ND filter. Edited and color graded in DaVinci Resolve Studio.
Filmed on a Monday, when the store was closed for re-stocking. A great learning experience and what I learned was:
– Product photography is not easy! Most items were wrapped in cellophane, which made them very reflective.
– Operating a camera is not easy! While I was able to restart shots or redo clumsy camera moves, it was during editing that my shortcomings became obvious. This added hours of work while editing having to stabilize shots and adjust timing. Lots of color grading work was needed to fix lighting, reflections and remove distracting things in the background.
– Lighting is not easy! I found myself having not enough light, or too much light when the overhead store lighting was used. Reflections on packaging sometimes obscured a product’s name or logo. This is definitely an area where I need to make some investments in equipment and time spent practicing.
The owner’s response was “Wow, I love it! That’s brilliant.”
